Replace Nextcloud
Nextcloud is a bloaty PHP AI monstrosity.
- Seafile
- heard some good things, but I'm somwhat sceptical (I think it's C?)
-
OwnCloud Infinite Scale
- Go
- seems to be nicely lean and focused on files
- native focus on OIDC
👍
- Syncthing
- heard a lot of good things about it
- peer-to-peer, not focused on server-client use
- no public file sharing
- just a god damn network file system of some kind?
-
MicroBin
- specifically for file sharing
- possibly useful if I end up with a solution without native sharing
Notes
- use case: managing files that don't fit into a repo
- photo library (well fresh exports and RAW, finished stuff goes into PhotoPrism)
- archive
- audiobooks (dedicated service? move to jellyfin?)
- well that's mostly it tbh
- use case: file sharing
- give someone link "upload it here"
- give someone link "download this"
- upload file on desktop and download on phone because for fucks sake that's the fastest way for stuff too big to chat to myself
- for big files or direct transfers a file transfer thing like croc is better anyway though
- shared folder for a team or something like that
- NC can federate shares over NC servers which is nice as it's quite common
- use case: calendar, contacts
- replace (maybe seafile has something there, the other definitely don't)
- Baïkal
- lean CalDAV/CardDAV server I used at some point
- does it still exist?
-
Radicale
- mentions Baïkal, seems to be similar in goals, but with a different philosophy
- SoGo
- entire suite including mail client
- use case: PhoneTrack
- there surely is a standalone version (I hope)
- how to migrate my non-me users?
- K uses files, contacts and calendar
- ask what F actually
- the bonus of NC is that it's all-in-one, I don't have to run 3 services, just the one
- do I even want to switch? is it worth the effort?
